How To Care For Your Baby's Organic Cotton

Organic baby clothes are some of the softest clothing you will have ever felt! It's the perfect thing next to your baby's skin and nothing pampers delicate baby skin like the pureness of organic cotton. Made without the use of chemical fertilizers, herbicides or pesticides in the entire growing and manufacturing process, organic baby clothes are the best choice for your baby.

All dyes are eco-friendly and no finishing agents are used on any of our fabrics. We start with 100% organic and finish 100% organic. All snaps and zippers are free of nickel and tested for this by third party labs. Note: All clothing should be washed prior to wearing, even organic!

Washing and Care of Organic Cotton

How do I wash organic cotton, will it shrink?
Don't worry about shrinkage. We've already made the allowances in our patterns to give your child plenty of growth room – so go ahead and order your child's correct size – there is no need to "buy big!" ( See FAQs, sizing)

That being said, don't "cook" your garments, drying with high heat can cause more than 4% shrinkage. Be very careful how you dry organic cotton apparel. Conventional cotton apparel is usually treated with chemicals to reduce the shrinkage effects of heat. Organic cotton is not treated, so in high heat it is possible for the cotton to shrink more than 10%. Shrinkage is worse for the lengths of the garments and is less noticeable for widths. To minimise shrinkage, please wash clothes in warm water, gentle cycle, and if necessary, tumble dry on low setting.

Treating Stains: The Quicker The Better
The longer a stain sits, the more time it has to work into the fibres. Reduce
the concentration of problem stains by diluting them with water right away.

Will the colors fade?

Eco- friendly dyes are just as long lasting as the harmful dyes used on conventional products. They will fade if powerful detergents or bleaching agents are used.
Because we do not use chemical color fixatives, please do not mix dark colors with light ones for the first few washes due to dye bleed. For the first wash, add ¼ cup of vinegar to the final rinse, this will help to set the color and resist fading or bleeding.

tip - when washing stripes or prints (best before they are worn) turn them inside out before washing, this will help lock the colors in for years!

How durable is Organic cotton?

Because Organic Cotton is not exposed to the weakening harsh chemicals that commercially grown cotton is, Organic Cotton will last many years with proper care.

Can I use bleach?

Do not use chlorine bleach on the natural color cotton products. The bleach will fade the cotton from its natural color and weaken the garment’s fiber
strength.

FAQ'S on HOW TO CARE FOR BABY WOOL BEDDING by Holy Lamb Organics

Can our wool bedding be machine washed? Yes, (unless otherwise noted on an item) all of our wool bedding can be machine washed using specific parts of your machine's washing cycle. We provide detailed washing instructions with your product. You will need a machine that allows you to change the settings once it has already begun. Many of the new front loader machines will not work because they do not let you manipulate the cycle once it has begun. If you only have a front loader, your best bet is to find a good friend and use theirs. If you do not follow the instructions correctly, your bedding will turn into felt!

My cat peed on my bedding. What do I do? It is best to first hand wash the specific areas where the pee is immediately. It is important to wash out this concentrated pee before attempting to wash the entire comforter. Next, follow the instructions provided with you product. In the soaking stage, add a bottle of natural enzyme inhibitors to the water and let your bedding soak for a good while. These enzyme products are available at your local health food store or natural pet store. Continue with the instructions provided.

Do you carry other types of such as cotton or down? No. While there are many types of "natural" materials used in natural bedding, we find wool to be the best. It ranks far above all other products (including cotton and down bedding) in it's ability to resist dust mites. Even products that are labeled "hypoallergenic" (including down products that have undergone massive wash techniques to get rid of the dust and even synthetic hypo products) will not be able to be dust mite free for long. Once you take it home, it will naturally attract dust mites.

Our company uses wool that comes from our local Pacific Northwest bio-region. Another factor that makes wool the best is proces in which wool is taken from the animal. Down bedding comes from the meat industy. The bird is used for it's meat while the feathers are plucked for bedding. Sheep however, are not harmed in the process of shearing and they grow a coat of fleece annually.

Lastly, we find wool to be superior in it's cozy quality and it's ability to regulate your body temperature. There is just something about wool that has people fall in love with it.
